About

Marita Knutsen is a ceramic artist from Melbourne, Australia. Growing up in an artistic family next to Sherbrooke Forest in the Dandenong Ranges, art and nature have always been part of her life.

Marita began her ceramic studies in 1995 at The Victorian College of the Arts, completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts. There she discovered a passion for porcelain, becoming fascinated by it’s strength, density and translucency. She then went on to the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology to complete an Honours degree.

Not wanting to give up her studies Marita returned to the VCA to complete a Graduate Diploma in Visual Art.

A personal tragedy led to an absence from the art world.

In 2014 Marita returned to clay by teaching ceramics to Primary School children and her passion for clay was reignited.

Marita is now a studio ceramic artist and has begun developing and exploring surface decoration using ceramic underglazes on a mid fire porcelain body.
